After working several years in Global Businesses and following my enthusiasm for learning and development, I came up discovering that instructional design is one of the master pieces for helping learners leverage their performance within the company. I believe that people are always seeking to improve their knowledge, skills, and, why not? their attitude. Furthermore, I made the decision to advance my career and learn more about this field, so I attended Syracuse University and earned a STEM degree in instructional design, development, and evaluation. As part of this program, coursework projects related to real-world problems were created to apply theory to practice. Following are some materials that I produced during my program journey.
Tools used: Snagit, Adobe Photoshop
Review of, and practice in, design and an in-depth review of the instructional systems design process. Exploration and experience of design — specifically instructional design — and review of the major aspects of instructional systems design in the context of typical instructional design problems and situations, integrating theory with practice. Emphasis on needs assessment, learning outcomes, instructional objectives, and instructional strategies in the context of theory and practice.
Focus on instructional systems development (ISD). Exploration of ISD as it is practiced in K12, higher education, military, and corporate environments. Ample guest speakers from various sectors. Creation of a personal ISD model.
Introduction to the basic concepts and procedures for conducting evaluations. Step-by-step guidelines for planning, implementing, managing, and evaluating service-oriented field evaluations. Focus on program-level evaluations within education. Design of an evaluation plan was the final project for the course.
Focus on aspects leading instruction and/or educational projects and of creating a project management plan. Management tactics, skills, procedures, and tools for planning and administering educational projects. Final product: a project plan designed by using a variety of project management tools and strategies.
Hands-on experience designing, developing, and critiquing instruction that effectively facilitates learning throughout all the different components of an instructional intervention, e.g., context setting, content delivery, content exploration, assessment. Two major products during this course: (1) an enhanced instructional unit, (2) documentation of our journey enhancing this instruction (including a set of criteria for evaluating any instructional material).
